History:
"Sing me to sleep. You've taken so much with you..."
No one knows much about Ion's few months when he had fallen in love with a woman. In the streets of London, he had met a woman who he was infatuated with and ended up spending time with her. Though as soon as the woman revealed that she had fallen pregnant, Ion was no where to be seen. Not even a last word goodbye, the pirate was up and gone, wanting nothing to do with a child or the notion of family. Salix's mother was having none of it either. An elemental who only wanted to reproduce for her species, when she gave birth, she left the baby in the back alleyways of the slums of the East End, not giving a damn as she went away to find a new man to try and settle down with. Within a few hours, Salix was found by a group of whores, not being able to resist the cries of a new born, they decided to take the baby back to their home. Feed him with what little food they had and keep safe and sound. One of the prostitutes in particular took a shine to the new born, an Irish woman by the name of Gael Blackburn. She named him and decided to be his care giver, come rain or shine. She wanted to raise him. And well, it was known in most of the Victorian age that babies tended not to live past the age of five that much.
To everyone's surprise, Salix was growing to be a healthy baby. With Gael having to cut down half of her food to feed them. She was amazed as how he was growing and how nothing seemed to affect him too much. When he reached the age of five, Salix started to show his abilities. Discovering them himself one day when he clicked his fingers and conjured a ball of light. Showing Gael his new trick, the woman ended up fainting at the sight of what he could do. Panicking that he had killed her, when she came around and asked him to do it again, Gael asked him if he could anything else. The woman knew she was being ridiculous, but didn't see what else she could do. Watching as within a few days of playing around, Salix could conjure balls of light that was vastly better than the electricity she was paying for. Asking him to conjure some, she cancelled her electricity to save on a bit of money and Salix had never been happier to just be playing with his new powers. Though she was quick and stern on the fact that he shouldn't show anyone. That he had to keep it between them. Knowing if anyone else saw them there was a chance that someone would send him away to a mad house or even kill him.
When Salix was growing up, Gael was constantly pestered by her friends that she would be better off selling him to someone. Sending him away to a work house or a factory while he was young to work. To being back money that she had waisted on his upbringing. But Gael refused at all costs to do such a thing. Growing close to Salix, she had told him from a young age about where she came across him. But he had still grown to call her mother and tell that he loved her. During the day when they were together, Gael had started to teach him her passions. Teaching him the piano on the broken, out of tune one she had while also teaching him to sing. Telling him why she still sung when her friends thought she was stupid holding onto such past times when it was the only reason she hadn't become an opium addict or an alcoholic. When she went to work at night, nothing made her happier than to come home and hear Salix singing to himself in the bedroom.
Salix had well passed the age that most kids tended to die. Stunning all the whores that knew about him and how he had been just an abandoned baby. All the whores that called Gael stupid for daring to raise a baby and spend her money on him didn't know what to say anymore. He had outlived most of the kids on the street and everyone had come to know him for when someone needed a friendly word of the day. When the first murder happened that made the whores hold their breaths, Salix was well into his teenage years. 1888, a whore was mutilated. A friend of Gael's, Salix suddenly looked to his mother with worry. Not wanting her to work the streets anymore, no matter her protests of the fact they needed money. He ended up reasoning by teaching her how to defend herself as he had learnt from the boys in the streets and even where to hide a knife on her just in case she needed it. When the last, most gruesome murder of the infamous 'Jack the Ripper' happened a few doors down from them and to an Irish woman, Salix pleaded with Gael not to go out on the night anymore.
The two ended up going to find work together. With no reason for Salix to avoid working, they had tried to find something that would pay well enough. But they ended up where they didn't want. Both working in a work house. For long hours and little pay. But it was enough to pay for the roof over their head and keep wood in the fireplace for the harsh winters. Eventually the time came when Salix noticed Gael's failing health. The life expectancy wasn't long, especially for someone who had been a prostitute. But Gael was almost out of her thirties and knew she had been lucky to see that. When she fell ill, crippled to her bed, Salix vowed to find a cure, to help her. Spending his money on anything that claimed to help what was wrong with her, doing anything to make her more comfortable. Stealing blankets people left out in their homes, taking more food than he was suppose too from the bakery... He did anything to make sure she could get better. But he was just in denial. He didn't want to accept that Gael was dying till she finally told him to stop worrying and save his money. One day from the way home from the work house, he brought the best looking flowers he could find. Carrying them back home for Gael. Making her smile as he laid in bed with her, singing her favourite song to her as he held her hand. When he felt her grip on his hand slack, he simply sung louder, ignoring the cracks in his voice till he couldn't sing anymore.
The worst part was realising that he didn't have the money to bury her. Not want to just have to leave her body by the side of the road, to his surprise, Gael's friends had all banded together to give him the money to pay for her to have a burial. When he buried her, making sure she had a marked grave so he could come back to see her again, all he knew was that he had to get out of London. He had to leave and find somewhere knew to be. Going to the port, he snuck onto a random ship, hiding in the hull, going to go wherever it took him. He ended up in the Caribbean and has never looked back.
Living off the grid, making a new connection with his brother... Salix is finally happy again.
