[History]
Kilmar's memory of his own history is somewhat patchy to him after what happened to him when when he was twenty five. The city that Kilmar grew up in was destroyed and ruined. Government was lost and all civilised human life was gone. Kilmar remembered watching his father's business collapse in minutes, all laws that once bound a land were gone and the underground mafia gangs rose up into power all over the world in cities and towns. Within the town Kilmar had grown up in, prostitution became what it was known for. Brothels popped up in every other house with drug dens in between and once illegal trafficking was what brought the woman to the town. All he knew about this time of his life was that he was far too young to ever understand what was going on and his mother was going to do anything in her power to get her and her two sons out of the town and somewhere that could offer more safety for them.
However it never happened. It was never that they couldn't leave, they to their belief, free to leave and try to find somewhere new to live and try again. But it was his father's history with the self proclaimed leader Anton that stopped them from leaving. Growing up to realise the business his father had built to keep them sustained was actually one of the reasons why Anton was able to rule the city without any competition or chance of slowing down. He's still conflicted over if it's a blessing or not that he can't remember what tore apart his family. At the age of fourteen, all he knew was that his older brother was now looking after him and his mother and father were either dead or sold to another town as slaves or worse.
Kili's life changed dramatically at twenty-five. So far his life had consisted of staying out of any trouble that came their way while still trying to find links to what happened to his parents without being caught poking around in places he shouldn't be. The problem was his brother. A heavy drinker and user of the brothels, he used his old relationship of Anton and his father to his advantage, opening tabs after tabs, ringing up more debt than it was possible to ever imagine. Although Anton argues that Kili wasn't a target in the attack, when a makeshift bomb was thrown through their home window as a warning, Kilmar ended up taking most of the force of it. Waking up a week later to a run down hospital room, unable to make a sound whenever he opened his mouth to speak while his side burned madly at the pieces of shrapnel that was still embedded in his skin. His memories became patchy, barely able to recall the name of his father or remember the date of his birthday, even his real name escaped him. With the lack of speech becoming apparent, all he was told by a doctor he guessed wasn't trained was something in his brain was damaged and he should be more thankful for it. Yet, that wasn't everything he suffered from. With the lack of being able to use his voice also came the deafness. The blast practically ruining his ear drums, his hearing taking a dramatic hit. Although he can hear, it's not anywhere near perfect and unless the room is completely silent, he will always strain to hear you.
With the bomb, also came his brother skipping towns, using him as a scapegoat not caring if Kili had lived or died. When he finally recovered even with shrapnel still in his skin, he was given pity. Being the wrong target and an innocent bystander, even he was shocked to be let free to go where he wanted. But a deaf and mute man was no use to anyone. Not sure what to do, how to do it, he found the money when he was returned to his home and got someone to help him get a passport. Given the name John Doe when no one could recall his real name. Getting the first flight he could over, the difficulty was trying to explain to everyone else that he had lost his voice and hearing. It wasn't till he was over the border somehow and on his way to a hospital. Not trusting the doctors in Ukraine that they had helped him. Playing on pity cards, he got tests done to make sure nothing else was wrong. To find out that his muteness was due to head trauma, he was told that it might come back one day or not. It was all up to his brain. His deafness could at least be helped with hearing aids. So at least that he didn't need to strain to hear anymore. With lessons in ASL, he surprised the doctors with enough money to pay for his tests. Leaving the hospital with a bag full of endless note pads, he started to travel. Earning small amounts of money along the way playing the piano in restaurants and very small venues. He's landed himself in Monstrum Town, finding it more accepting of his lack of speech, for now, he's happy to just play and earn a small amount of money in his time.
